As spring approaches, incoming chief confident in fire department's capabilities
This month Fort McMurray's fire chief Darby Allen is retiring, having seen enough fire for a lifetime after last spring. He'll be succeeded by Jody Butz, who was formerly the assistant deputy chief and has been with Fort McMurray's Regional Emergency Services for over fifteen years.
The new chief and the entire community are anxious about fire season after the devastation and chaos that unfolded in their area in 2016. When he takes command, Mr. Butz has wildfire detection and elimination high on his priority list. He's confident that the same team that has been battling wildfires for many years is stronger than ever and ready for the season.
